The moment we all both dread and look forward to each season. It's time for the Game of Thrones season 4 finale: "The Children". What will we see this week as rumors fly that this could be the greatest episode in the series thus far?
Disclaimer: Reminder that I have not read the books and in this instance I have chosen not to view the trailer for next week's episode.
The title of the episode and rumors I hear from various sources indicate we will check in with all the younglings in the GoT universe. There are many questions as to who qualifies as "children" and what exactly we will see. The general consensus, however, is that we will tie up several story arcs and likely launch more to push into Season 5.
We have to imagine we'll see Arya in this episode as we last left her laughing about her Aunt's death at the gates of The Eyrie. Will she continue on and reunite with Sansa? What will The Hound do after traveling so far to deliver a prize which may no longer carry the same value? Will the two continue their delicate "friendship"?
Sansa has been featured recently as her saga with Little Finger unfolds to deadly end. What lies ahead for her and for the wily weasel in this episode and beyond? Will they quickly get Robin out of the way to become the rulers of the Eyrie? Is Sansa joining forces with Little Finger for her own safety or is she setting him up to take a fall later in the series? She's becoming more clever and self-preserving each day.
Last time we saw this young man he was off into the wastelands north of the wall getting captured, unintentionally rescued and sneaking off to find the tree instead of reuniting with Jon Snow. Will we see him arrive at the tree in this episode? Will other harm befall his party?
It's been a few episodes since we've seen much of this child-king. How might his season 4 come to a close? I imagine we won't see his wedding in this episode. Might he play a role in the fate of Tyrion despite recusing himself from presiding over the trial?
Baby White Walkers!?
These are children and after being teased with this mystery forever ago we still have no idea what the deal is with babies that are turned to White Walkers. It seems at odds with the normal "zombie" viewpoint of "turning" normal humans and you might expect that these babies still grow into mature White Walkers. So many questions so few answers.
Okay so they aren't exactly children...or are they? I'm sure I'm not alone in longing for a little fire breathing dragon action to close out the season. We really haven't seen them in quite some time and although they aren't human children, they do have a mother and as a result could make an appearance. Fingers crossed on this one.
Who else might we hear from? Will Gendry make an appearance? What moments might leave us desperate for Season 5 next year? Did I mention this episode is rumored to be longer at 66 minutes of fantastic GoT action? Share your thoughts in the comments (no spoilers please!).
